So I bought $25,000 of silver from GoldSilver.Com.. I got an email today and I need to pay Australian Customs charges $ 2085.84 before 3pm today or it gets sent home It kind of pisses me off. It's my fault and I should have done my research better. Just ranting.. what makes my blood boil even more is that they haven't even tried to call my mobile, they only sent me an email. If I didn't see this email today, it would have gone all the way back to the USA. I won't be buying from over there again, that's for sure. F my life.
They will find other taxes and insurance, holding costs to put on it, probally fumigate too lol. I've been stung before over $1000, so many charges, its a joke. But yeah that sucks mate.
pay by credit card and if its a charge they were not entitled to ..do a chargeback as above, gst imput on 999 silver or 9999 gold should be zero
Actually, you should contact a customs broker if thats the case for gst on pure pm's. If not at least contact customs and threaten them.
So I don't have to pay the amount? Apparantly if I don't pay the 2k by 3pm they're sending it home. And yes it was all Silver.
http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page5350.asp Just call them up and explain to them that it is a precious metal, and they must have overlooked the GST exemption. Easyily solved.
I had this problem with a monster box last year. Same Threat.... The end client opted to pay the GST and offset it against business GST. Bought 5 more without a problem. I Blame FedEx Customs agents who don't understand the rules for GST. The truth is once they F it up, they don't like to back track. There are a number of threads here related to this...
Well apparently since they are just the coins I have to pay GST, it's only for bullion. 'm just going to pay it now, or it's going back. Then I will work out whether I should or not
Bollocks - assuming that you've imported ASEs, there's no GST assessable. Try this thread for help: http://forums.silverstackers.com/message-120035.html#p120035 Otherwise ring the ATO and ask how you claim back GST on what should have been a GST free purchase - I believe there is a process that can be followed.
Canadian Maples. I am assuming this doesn't change anything though? Spoken to about 13 different people and just keep getting stuffed around. It's this kind of thing that leaves a bitter taste in my mouth, and seems to happen every single time I do anything. Have paid the 2k now, now I have to ring the ATO
Yep - Maples should be GST free on import. Also read http://forums.silverstackers.com/to...-tax-gst-on-precious-metals-in-australia.html No-one's been able to post details on a successful GST reversal that I know of - please, if you are able to go through the process and claim the GST back, post your experiences to help other members in future.
If it's coins just fill out an importation form(download from customs) and fax it too them, I imported coins a few months ago,.just put the right codes in and that's it plus fee.UPS seem to be the only ones that try, fedex suck.
if you pursue this long enough customs will eventually flip you the finger and tell you to get a private ruling from the ATO. once they have made a decision regardless of it's accuracy they wont change it.
