    I'm not to stacking/collecting...

I take it that if you have some rarer/nicer coins that are in great condition, it can be worth having them properly graded to increase the value? Is that basically how this works?

Yep. If you have some coins that are in high demand, with low supply, in good condition - independent grading can increase the value of the coin significantly.

E.g. "This is the best coin I have in my collection" may not get you much more money.
E.g. "This is the best coin that has been independently tested and found to be the best out of hundreds/thousands." should get you many extra dollars.

PCGS and NGC are widely regarded as the best 2 grading services.
... lots of friendships have been broken due to heated discussions over which company is better (joking).

Some people prefer NGC (I do)... some people prefer PCGS.

    Thanks yennus !

Very joyful to see that you went NGC you will be very happy that you did in the long run.

I know that I have been very actively "pro grading" because I do believe that it is extremely important to add a "pedigree" to your investments RIGHT NOW. As I have stated on many occasions, those who want to remain in OMP is fine as well. Everyone has their own agendas and thoughts in their mind as to where they are going with their collection. I can already see that you are (and have) taken it to the next level.

We have all said it but I will say it again your recent grading success could not have happened to a more deserving person. You have worked your ass off to moderate this forum and find beautiful pandas for me and all the SS members.

When I first came to this forum I saw that you were getting attacked a lot and having to defend your passion but it is all paying off for you now yennus and I'm fckn tickled pink about your success my man.

Without your resilience and diligence this panda forum would not exist in the capacity that it is now.
Good luck on all of your future acquisitions and grade submissions

I'm really looking forward to that beer in Shanghai bro

I rolled the dice recently on an opened proof panda with some pronounced greasy fingerprints across the face. Is that type of thing an ideal candidate for NGC services? And if so, is it at all cost effective to engage their services for only one coin?

Candidate for NCS services; yes. Cost effective for one coin; probably not.

To submit one coin to NCS for conservation you have to account for these costs:

    1. Shipping to them: $?
    2. Submission form handling fee: $8
    3. Selected service fee: $26.50 for modern tier conservation and grading
    4. Return shipping to you: $?

I'm not sure of your location, so I can't estimate shipping charges. If the proof is large than 1 oz. you'll also be charged an additional fee for the larger holder needed.

    Hi All

I have a few pandas that I am looking to get graded. I have decided on the NCS/NGC route.

My question is what years make it worthwhile? Mine range from mid '90s to 2011. I was was thinking that the 2009's would be marginal in terms of cost vs. return.

    Any thoughts?

Sounds about right. For grading, more volume = better.
