I want to share my opinion on these pandas,

I received 2 of these expo pandas few weeks ago, to me these coins look really stunning.

The mintage for these expo coins are lower compared to the normal silver panda, however I don't see these gilded pandas being discussed much in this forum

    Year Coin Mintage
    1996 Beijing 20000
    1997 Shanghai 30000
    1998 Aerospace 50000
    1998 Beijing 30000
    1999 Beijing 40000
    2000 Guangzhou 40000
    2002 20th 6000
    2004 Beijing 40000
    2005 Ind/Coml 100000
    2005 Beijing 30000
    2006 Beijing 20000
    2008 Banknote 20000

I am planning continue on collecting these expo pandas to get complete set,
Not only they look great, I also believe that the value of some of these coins will raise in the future
I noticed on eBay auctions, these coins are always sold at competitive prices, which means that the demand for these coins are high.

Any other SSers that are collecting(or planning to collect) expo pandas?

I think wilkes collects some of them, his avatar is 1999 Gilt bear :)

I wish I had the money to collect everything but unfortunately I don't so have to give these Gilt bears a miss :(

I think they're hot though, especially the 99 and the 08 banknote.

Expo Pandas generally have a limited appeal, because to be frank, some of the events they are for are pretty mundane. Being for coin or money expos, they also have a habit of falling mainly into the hands of dealers, which means there could be quite an extensive hoard somewhere.

That being said, the guilded coins can be simply stunning, and if purchased at the right price, will be a valuable addition to any collection. You cannot have a full 1oz silver panda set without every expo coin!

Yup, they are hot buys at the moment :) ,
one of the coin dealer on eBay (Firststrikecoin) is able to sell these coins at consistent price, eventhough the items were set as auction
I've tried to grab these coins at bargain price, but it is always sold above/at pricepedia price.

Stunning coins you got there... yep, guilded Pandas are hot items at the moment! :)

I know that 25Grizzlies was eying some guilded Pandas when he was over here in Shanghai.

Congratz on your recent acquisitions! :)

    Stunning bears!

Its true that most expo panda sellers are coin dealers (possibly hoarded),
but it could also because of the expo panda owners, like myself that are unwilling to part with these pandas :)

Yep, the gilded pandas have remained very consistent over time in terms of demand. Over the past 10 weeks, 25 2005 1 oz silver Beijing expo pandas have sold on eBay in MS 69. The price has ranged from $164 to $227. In Chinese coin terms, that's steady as a rock :)

Beats me why the PF 1999 Beijing Expo is so much more expensive than the MS. Anyone knows the reason?

This is one of those cases where label changes over time have created confusion.

Either way though, it's one of the rarest gilded expos

Can't believe people are willing pay much more because of the label differences

I think i read somewhere that NGC grade new 1999 expo panda submissions as PF instead of MS, so it is not even a label mistake..

Yes 1999 is rare, and 1998 is even rarer, hardly seen one listed on eBay
