    Hi stackers,
Further to recent discussions with fellow members regarding Old Ted from Perth,-
a fellow member made a suggestion that he be auctioned off on the premise that he be reauctioned after a period of three months to another ss member ( that way he gets to visit everybody). Im thinking this could be an interesting concept, perhaps he could become an unofficial mascot?!?
Would anybody be interested in this idea? Or is it stupid?
Please thank the post if you think its a good idea, or perhaps make a suggestion or tell us why you think its a prposterous idea? Melt is forbidden ok :)

    This is Old Ted:-

Call me a cynic, but I have my doubts that some people would not make good on "reauctioning it after 3 months" particularly if the price of spot has dipped and they would be looking at a loss. That aside, the current holder of Ted may stop using the forum and forget about it. It's safer in your hands.

I would suggest someone with graphic design skills paste a picture of Ted at the top of the forum on the other side of the silver stacker round if they want to keep it as a forum mascot.

It was I that suggested that. I would be afraid something would happen to Old Ted.
Years ago my Father and my Uncle were building a fence. As my Father was digging a post hole out came an old ceramic door knob from several feet down. They couldn't figure out how it got so deep. As a joke they gave it back and forth to each other as a Christmas or B-day present. It was passed back and forth for a few years in the same manner until the last person got it. Whom didn't carry on the tradition.
Probably be safe to hang on to Old Ted. It would only take one ass and he would be gone.

Bad idea. I'd be surprised if the first or second auction didn't push it towards max. value with subsequent losses just because the people who wanted it the most already paid top dollar (but it loses some value if you are "required" to re-auction).

I think it's a good idea to auction "ted"

A person would have to be a bluddy low b...... not to re-auction and...for the sake of 5oz they'd absolutely screw their membership and integrity on SS.

I'd like to see ted photographed at various locations; for example, ted could make a trip to Mount Everest or perhaps enjoy a first class seat Sydney to Perth to visit his friends at the Mint!

Perhaps ted could be photographed falling from a hot-air balloon or relaxing at the beach. You could have a drunk ted, a fit ted, a hunting ted etc etc.

Maybe ted could meet up with other ted's :D

I acknowledge that someone could just keep Ted, but I would love to see this happen.

Perhaps one way to try around the issue of buying and keeping Ted, rather than re-auctioning would be to restrict the auctions to Members++ or Sponsors only who have say 15 trades or something along these lines.... I guess what I'm suggesting is that those with xxxx posts or yy trades or whatever have demonstrated a connection to the forum and are more likely (one would hope) to continue the "tradition" ....

Pretty sure no one would be bidding/buying with the idea of making money on this sort of thing.... more a bit of fun and lightness as opposed to a buy and flip scenario.

One other thing that could be done is, for example were I to win, in my subsequent auction, all monies raised above spot + post would be donated to charity
