Firstly I bought this Lunar dragon from Bullion Bourse and I only noticed now this dark, redish mark on the top of the coin, I didn't open it prior to taking these photos, I know you're not supposed to clean numismatics so what do I do? what is this mark? I've only had this coin for a week. Will Bullion Bourse exchange this coin? does anyone have any returning experiences with them? NOTE the mark is under the 'USRT' http://postimg.org/image/asbmtsaw1/ http://postimg.org/image/53q9gjq5h/ http://postimg.org/image/hbi0vz43r/ Secondly, Mighty fine work from the mulligan mint.. These are obviously milk spots right? so how do I clean the fuckers. Also note this is how I bought the coin of BB. Any advice guys? http://postimg.org/image/bar1lfcez/ http://postimg.org/image/wmd3187ir/
Did you get a response from BB Don't clean them Don't clean them Don't clean them You lost me when you took it out of the capsule , sorry
We are all different in how we respond to situations, that are less than our liking. How many coins are involved here? Personally, I would chalk it up to experience. After all, things do happen regardless of intent.
Just the the dragon and the slave queens, I'm not to fussed about the Slave queens since they have a history of poor quality from the MM, Just wanting advice if they can be cleaned somehow. However the mark on the dragon baffles me.
Some Dragons did have toning on them when releases It's the same toning as early Kooks get , sometime achieved by the way they are stored Basically it's natural silver toning
Looks like some slight toning A 1oz dragon sold now by BB would not be coming direct from the mint - it would be a buyback they can't control what the previous owner might have done with it before selling it to them I would guess they would replace it I personally wouldn't consider the hassle of posting it back etc. worth it - but up to you I know some people are really picky about the condition of their bullion coins
^ My bloody fat fingers on this iphone hit Thanks instead of Reply. On a proof, maybe. On your BU, no.
Leo, sorry for hijacking your thread but I have somehow relevant question guys, how do you like toning of this coin? (mintage for this is one of the lowest)
Leo, if you didn't get a response from BB after two or so of business days, you are justified in being upset. I don't care how busy they claim to be, they need to respond to customers within a couple of days. As for the toning, it probably will affect the value, but not by much. If the toning on dragon is tarnish and it truly bothers you, you can find videos on YouTube which shows ways of cleaning it that will not damage that coin. As for milk spots (if in deed that's what it is on the Slave Queen), those are virtually impossible to get out without some rubbing on the surface of the coin which likely will be noticeable. A proof finish on a coin will show tarnish removal / cleaning efforts much easier than an ordinary bullion finish. I believe plenty of people either clean tarnished coins or have them professionally cleaned. I generally follow the collector's rule to not clean coins myself, but there certainly are exceptions to every rule in my view. .
The mark shown on that coin is common on BU Lunar Dragons. I've had entire rolls affected - it almost looks like a brown water stain. They came like this from The Perth Mint - they are minted as bullion coins, even though they attract numismatic premiums due to selling out, and whatever they were doing in late 2011 when these coins were struck, a LOT of coins slipped out of the mint affected by this problem. I had some where about 40% of the surface area of the coin was affected, others where it was barely a sliver along the edge. Unsure of the reason behind it, but I've opened boxes of 1oz Dragons when they were only weeks old and seen these marks. Have never seen it on another size or another design - just 1oz Dragons. It's a known problem with these coins - unless it was bought as a graded coin, it's just how many of the Dragons are.
