Hi all, I'm new to this. Been reading up for a few months, just trying to invest in something that give me some fun and a little profit along the way. I dont have any experience of coins, couldnt tell you a kook from a koala, but I'm eager and willing to have a try, starting of with a few bullion bars - just to make me feel like I have some pirate treasure. Went in to Gold Stackers today, met Ben and purchased my first kilo bar. Very nice experience, Ben very pleasant and helpful, gave me the right advice and made me feel like I'd made a good decision going to see him. I'll be going again Cheers Matt
Hello and welcome to the forum. Kooks are the ones with wings, koalas are the ones that look like dropbears
They are EVIL people in there GP was my first trade for a 10oz bar And than I met CK & he explained things to me & showed me a few dealers around town
nice to meet you all, I'm learning, and sticking to bars, not confident enough for coins, have no idea cheers Matt PS Sat here looking at my shiny pamp bar
Didn't you look in the corner cabinet at all those shiny lunar, koala and kook coins ? A 1kg snake is only $40 more than a bar but nicer looking.
G'Day and welcome aboard Talking of coins, there's 2 types to put it simply. Numismatic - the sort that are rare or rareish, you're looking for an increase in price on these based on collectability factors moreso than the intrinsic value of the metal it's made from. As an example, a coin (that might be a bullion coin - see below) that is in super fine condition and has been graded and "slabbed" (that means stuck in a plastic holder and given a grading), or a limited-run type coin, or proof coin will generally (in broad terms) be considered a "Numi". Bullion - the sort of coin that is produced in bulk, pretty much unlimited in volume, and exists for the value of the metal inside it. They're the "general brush strokes" to define the two types. I've been stacking for a good 5 years or more, and still steer clear of numismatic stuff, because I've no clue as to what is worth buying and what isn't. On the other hand, I have no fear of buying a few rolls of Kookaburras, or Lunars, these are bullion coins, but will always retain a nice premium over and above spot price, and they're a bit nicer to look at than the "blobs" Perth Mint produces
Hi all, another newbie here. Thanks for the info on this thread so far, guys! I'll be getting more coins than bars from now on now I know the difference, midnight man! Also, welcome Acebass! Who is good to see for bullion and non numi coins in Melbourne, guys?
Doh! Cannot believe I just did that. Feel free to mock, I know I deserve it, people! Laughing so hard at myself right now....
