Hi All I stumbled across this site when looking for some new sources to buy silver from and am glad I did!!! I have read a fair few of the posts and they all seem to be wise commentary on the metal/s we all love I have learnt a lot already so Thanks! I am a relatively new to bullion and have been stacking for about 2 years. Its great to have found like minded people I look forward to contributing and sharing my experiences.
Welcome I think " Welcome Stranger " is the name of the largest Gold nugget found either in the world or in Australia only. Pictures of stacks are always welcome here too
The "Welcome Stranger" was the name given to the largest alluvial gold nugget found in the world, with a calculated refined weight was 2,283 oz was discovered by John Deason and Richard Oates, both Cornish[2], at Moliagul, Victoria, Australia on 5 February 1869 about 9 miles north-west of Dunolly. Found only 2 inches (7.5 centimetres) below the surface. and http://www.welcomestrangerhotel.com.au/
Wow! Thanks for all your responses. I think its the "Welcome Nugget" thats pictured on the 1988 1/2 ounce gold nugget coin series - the "Welcome Stranger" which is pictured on the 1984(?) 1oz gold nugget - I may be wrong but I own a few welcome strangers (they are my favourite Au bullion - hence the name) - I think it went to "Posiedon" in 1985. Anyway thanks again for the warm welcome. PS if anyone has '84 or 85 gold nugget series - I may be interested in small quantaties.... I am trying to build my silver stack at the moment so am doing about 20 to 1 silver/gold.
I stand corrected..... I have done a google and found 1988 1oz Welcome Strangers.... I am still quite sure mine are dated 1984.... I will have a look....
The 1988 1/2oz proof coin depicts a gold nugget called the Welcome and dated 1838 Doesn't actually name the coin as the Welcome Stranger.
1 oz 1986 gold nugget series depicts the welcome stranger. I am just bidding on the 4 coin set at the moment, by the way welcome mate.
