Finally got my hands on some dragons, took long enough. Thought it would be interesting to shoot 2000's and 2012's together. I'll do more and better shots later. Got enough of both years to make a good sized pile, that would be a cool shot but I could screw up, collapse the pile and do a lot of damage. The 2 2012's shown are a 5 oz and a 2 oz; the 2012 5 is almost a big as the 2000 10 oz Humm, my 10 oz 2000 is starting to tone.
Hi TomD I just want to say thanks for your photo postings. I'm sure you have inspired many (I am one) to try that bit harder to take good photos of our coins/bars,etc when we are sharing or selling. null.
This is the first time that i realised that the 2012 dragon design is just a reverse of the 2000 dragon. Clearly I did not read any of the previous dragon discussions.

Silverbay your pics are great too the clarity is amazing.I think you & tomd need to have a pic competition .
I'm fortunate to have all the various 2012 Dragon bullion sized coins (except for the the 10kg table). I must admit my favourite size is to 10 Oz coin. I really appreciate the pic of the 2000 10 Oz coin. I might have to hunt one down...
Sorry just a general question, if we keep the coin in the airtight at all time, will we still get the toning over time?
I now mostly use a Sony A850 dslr http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/st...1&storeId=10151&langId=-1&partNumber=DSLRA850 but have done some of the shots with other Sony bodies. The important bit is the lens, a 100mm f2.8 macro was used on all my shots. Yep! I've got coins that have never left the plastic or capsule that have toning.
Nice camera setup and photos. The mirror image Dragon design was a cop out in my opinion. Perth Mint really weaseled out of this one. It doesnt really fit in with the other designs in that respect. Not only is it a cheap option, they've tried to go safe by trying to appeal to the same crowd who liked the last one. They were going to sell out no matter what. Even if they had a child draw a stick figure dragon. In my opinion the Perth mint failed this years design. Very cheap, safe and to be honest just plain lazy.
I agree, mostly. I don't think it was cost driven, what could the artwork have cost compared to the total sales? A drop in the bucket. It was safe, they were too afraid of screwing up. A US saying: "No guts no glory". At least they didn't totally punt it. Anyone here follow Britannias; talk about a falloff in artwork!! From Paul Nathan's beautiful designs to this horrific POS
