If there is anyone who is familiar with these Medals/Coins? If so, I need your help. I am new at collecting large medals/coins. I was thinking about buying these items as a bulk deal, but I want to make sure I am not going to get ripped off, I am sure you can relate? This would be my first bulk buy if the price is right. Any comments or help on what I should pay would be very much appreciated. Not sure how you want help or advice? Perhaps you can start off with saying how much the seller is offering you the entire bulk for?
I think you're playing a very dangerous game buying into these without any knowledge of them. The risk of losing thousands instantly outstrips the reward, a lot of those could be fake and a lot of those have fluctuating prices and are hard to sell. Not to sound like an ass, but I think those that do have the knowledge to give an accurate ballpark figure (would take a very long time) would probably do you more help to stay quiet. Unless of course you can get good photos of each and we can authenticate and work from there. Talking from experience too by the way, when I first started buying slabbed 5oz pandas my first 2 of 3 were fake - quick but expensive learning experience.
Not good enough to have fake coins pass grading. Good at putting fake coins in slabs they have opened - yes My fault ultimately, don't buy coins you have not seen in person - always ask for clear photos from multiple angles of the actual coin for sale.
You are looking at a bulk buy of coins from a country of origin that is famous for counterfeiting. What could possibly go wrong?
If those are all genuine, they'd be worth a small fortune I believe. Do you get some sort of return guarantee on them if any turn out to be counterfeit? Aureus' suggestion is worth noting You could start by checking the TPG (PCGS / NGC) website photos with the photos the seller supplies but request high quality photos from the seller in order to do this. .
If you think you are getting a good deal out of this, why not just grab a return air tickets and meet up with the seller? You get to examine the coins/slabs in person and if it turns out to be fake all you lose are your air tickets.
Are you going to grab them personally? Is it just a list for sale or there are pictures of coins? P.s. I have seen kind of this bulk sale though it was 150+ years numis ... At my very safe estimate collection was worth about $30k if sold piece by piece. The buyer (not me) got it for $12k.
There is a big problem when one is playing in a sandbox that they lack knowledge about. Yes, you could be getting some great deal. However, if you lack to knowledge to definitively determine that on your own then you may also be buying worthless junk. Generally my advice is to stay away from investing in things that one does not possess the knowledge to assess.
roquegallery1 has posted few big items from China in this forum. On top of it post in other forum if I am not wrong. No price indication and photo in the thread and ask for opinions. it is not possible to just give opinions in this case
i would never but from roguegallery. He is even a bigger noob than me. better pay a few bucks more and get my stuff from reliable sources
