I'm about to send off 12 coins and would like advice on how to pack these safely. Should I bubble wrap each coin individually or in a roll? Should I lay them flat? Will they stay flat during transit? Anyway any tips/hints and pics would be most helpful? Thanks in advance.

    Edited: Coins are all capsuled.

I find rolls are generally easier to pack and less susceptible to moving about in transit.

Try making a roll with several layers of newspaper first so they're held tightly together and then with several layers of bubblewrap. That makes a solid (but padded) lump that you can but into a box with some more stuffing to stop it rattling around.

For bars or larger lots I use kids lunch boxes, get them at the supermarket, cheap as and secure.
Tape the lid on tight into express bag and away they go.
Have had some great packaging sent to me. Also some shockers, like just throw the coins in a bag..
Given we all know damaged coins are just bullion value you would think we would all protect the metal better.

Everyone I've had send me coins or bars from this site has really made an effort to pack them up well. It's great to know others care that the bullion is getting to me in the exact same state they had it in.

Personally, I am useless at wrapping anything, including birthday presents. So I just end up using massive amounts of bubble wrap to ensure the capsule isn't damage and more importantly, the coin. Bars, I just keep wrapping around and around with bubble wrap.

Sure it could sound like overkill, but it doesn't weigh much at all (so not pushing you to pay more postage) and the bubble wrap itself is cheap anyway.

For me, out of 100+ shipments only had like 2 that had a cracked capsule.

Usually people just wrap it really tight in rolls as Big A.D. said and pad it a few times with bubble wrap or plastic.

If it's just 2 or 3 coins however, I would usually just wrap them individually with paper and then keep wrapping a few more times with paper together before adding bubble wrap around the whole thing. So it becomes a 'blob' thing I guess.

Glad wrap for tiny Gold coins :D

Tissue? Pah... what you want is an old thin towel.... chop it up and wrap it.

Hiho often thinks your sending him bandages when you send it over :D

Thank you all for the suggestions. I went for individually bubble-wrapped plus wrapping them together two by two. I've done the best I can for these coins and hope the postie will now handle them with the same gentleness and care. Farewell my pandas!

I had quite a bit of success tonight packing up 10 coins (in capsules).

Two pieces of cardboard, sandwiching the coins together with bubble wrap. Bubble wrap in between the coins so the capsules don't whack each other. Then tape around the sandwich and a bit more bubble wrap around the cardboard!
