Hi VRS - yes I acknowledge I pinched your idea. When I had my old computer every time I would go on your thread my old pc would seize because of the big download of all the embeds. So started me own because I thought Die Antwoord were so funny..
Die Antwoord. Very impressive sound and politics. Songs for the new anarchy. Interesting seeing the result of dispossession of the SA/Rhodesians expressed with such anger and realisation of the power structures in place. No wonder Lady GaGa was unimpressed with their answer to her invitation for Die Antwoord to be the support act for her South African Tour. I wonder if she recognised the politics inherent in the refusal. This must be one of the most extraordinary put downs in musical history (next to Lennon's How Do You Sleep). Every warning possible for this video:
Actually Julie if you backtrack on the history of Max Normal & Watkin Tudor Jones you'd know that DA & 'Zef' are just parodies blown out of all proportion & run-ins with 'celebs' (which SHE certainly isn't!) like Gaga are engineered to maximise hype & shock value...
Thanks for that. A friend showed me the clip and I really liked the energy they show. Interesting views of SA and I think I'll delve deeper.
T.V. 1966! - think the interspliced models were in on the joke, singer wasn't so the story goes. "Gainsbourg deliberately filled the song Les Sucettes ("Lollipops") with double-meanings and strong sexual innuendo. On the surface, the lyrics tell the innocent tale of a girl named Annie who enjoys lollipops. However, it is clear that Gainsbourg intentionally created the theme as a metaphor for oral sex. Although a big hit, the song sat in stark contrast to genuinely innocent songs on the same album such as Je me marie en blanc ("White Wedding") and a me fait rire ("It makes me laugh"). The public furor over Les Sucettes would throw Gall's career off-track for years, and Gall was not left unscathed by the experience. She belatedly understood that she had been used: the song was deliberately conceived with the aim of attracting publicity." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/France_Gall http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serge_Gainsbourg Edit: Click "Watch on youtube"
