Question not worth starting a thread. Do the mints get the silver they use at spot or since they are buying such large quanities somehow get it under? Seems like the margins are extremely small if they get it at cost.
The US Mint, Royal Canadian Mint and Austrian Mint are much bigger companies than other Mints. Supermarkets can live with smaller margins than local shops on their products. Probably the same applies here.
I'm sure Bron stipulated in another post that Perth Mint obtains quite a bit of its Silver from its Gold refining operations (it was only in recent times that they actually had to purchase Silver from the market and import it for coin production) so their Silver purchasing price is probably a bit lower than the spot market.
