I gather that the silver offerings from La Casa de Moneda de Mexico (House of Coins of Mexico, the Mexican National Mint) aren't common knowledge over there. Thought I would show you a couple, the Don Quijote ( Mexican spelling) is especially cool but the Aztec Calendar is exquisite (expensive too). The coin below the Aztec is the reverse of the coin, the images on the reverse are the circulating Mexican coins as of that date. The common name for the "1 onza" coin is the Libertad, the Mexican equivalent of the SAE. The bottom coin is an example of a circulated coin, 50 cents. I've got lots more shots of Mexican stuff, may add later. These are my pictures.
A picture is worth 1000 words---- You can get a feel for the lighting direction by looking at the shadows on the shots. It's the shadows that defines the coin, can't do it with straight on lighting.
Thanks for the high quality photos! Mexican coins are my thing...The Cuauhtemoc image on the Cinq. Centavos is one of the most powerful I have ever seen. Looking forward to more of your work..
Great pics Tom! A few requests if you have them. Gold 20 Peso with the Aztec Calendar. Gold Hungarian 100 Corona (not Austrian) 20 Francs (Rooster) 20 Francs (Helvetia) Actually all your gold European coins would be great. Have a good Weekend. Cheers Steve
brilliant coins Tom, would love to get my hands on some. Been tryng for some Libertads, but hard to get at a fair price in oz.
Actually "plata pura" isn't the coin name, it means pure silver in Spanish but I know what you mean. The coin is the Mexican Libertad. Here's what I have in European gold, neglecting the obvious like Sovereigns and Philharmonics:
The 4 ducats look majestic !! Great set up you have there for taking photos of coin How about some photos of silver coins with shadow effects ( only 1 out of 3 lamps on, or 2 out of 3 , or you know what i mean )
Dunno bout that, just checked Apmex an found they are selling random years BU Libertads for spot + $4.60, a little less than their SAE price. I know you can't buy Apmex here but they are a good gage to the market.
Here's the reverse of a proof Onza on the Banco de Mexico display box that the set of 4 (1-1/2-1/4-1/10) came in.
Hello, I just found these 2 oz "mexican .999 plata pura" coins, i got this one with the aztec calendar/horse and another one with Hidalgo/eagle in it (got them as a bday gift several years ago).
