    Good evening Silver Stacker members.
First post, so I will try not to make it too long.
I live near Melbourne and now that I am on holiday, I was looking to make my first ever purchase of precious metals.
I have already read through many, many posts on buying in Melbourne, however, after perusing all the places that have been mentioned, they all seem, to ah, be shut over the Xmas break. Does anyone know if there are any places open that would be able to sell me 1oz of Gold and 3kgs of Silver? (I am starting with a small purchase first off, as I am quite nervous about the whole thing).

If there is no-where open, does anyone know if/when the main places to purchase will be opening?
Lastly, would anyone be able to comment on a fair premium % cost when purchasing in Melbourne?

    Regards all,
    Spec.

Note - I've never dealt with them so I in no way vouch for them. That being said, I haven't heard a cross word about them either on this forum

It may help if you can advise what side of Melbourne you are coming from ie north, west, east or south east etc.

    Appreciate the reply's gentlemen,
I tried ringing Peter Strich, no answer on the phone, so I am assuming hes closed.
I live in the Geelong area if that helps.
Happy enough to drive anywhere into the CBD etc
Also, sorry to repeat, but I am unsure what the average going rate is for the % of commission that is charged when purchasing. I have seen quite a few different numbers out there.

BTW - amazing drop in prices last couple of days... market manipulators must be having a field day.

    Regards,
    Spec.

One of the local dealers (no names) was telling me 8 months(?) ago that they were going to be opening in Geelong by years end. Not sure if they have or not. But perhaps a quick search may save you from travelling to Melbourne.

If this is the guy that sells watches and jewellery, his 5 1kg Silver bars in the window are only for sale at $1100 each - he won't budge on price.

Universal wasn't open today, not sure when they're back :/

It does vary between dealers and sometimes even the same dealer will vary their margins depending on various things

W Davis is the simplest in price - they deal at whatever price is on their website at the time you walk in
Biggest problem there is the stock moves so fast that the day you decide to go in, they might have everything you want or they might have nothing
Especially if SpannerMonkey has paid a visit right before you get there :)

For the rest, you'll just have to ask on the day and see what you get
Depending on the dealer, what the item is and what mood they are in that day, it could be 10% over spot or 30% over spot

I only saw from outside the store, all the bars in the window has a white sticker on them...

First time I have seen golddiggers.

agreed with w davis though, they are the best walk in kinda of shop arrangement.

Thank you again for all the replies.
I will let you know how I go!
Sadly, I wont be able to get into Melbourne until the 2nd now.

(I will have a good look for the 'Geelong Dealer').

    Regards,
    Spec.
