I just had an interesting conversation.

It seems that Scottsdale Silver bought out the bullion minting part of Materion and will be manufacturing the stackers themselves from now on.

Which would explain why the new bars have no mention of Materion at the back.

So, Scottsdale Silver stackers are still being made. dunno about the other ones.

Hmm that's public that information now is it? Was commercial-in-confidence when communicated to me.

We have some of the first batch on order at Gold Stackers.

I love my stacker bars so I thought I would give this thread a bit of an update with a pic of the back of the new scottsdales now they are made in house and not by Materion.
So now each bar has a serial number on the back and are still super shiney

Have one, possibly two tucked away at the back of one of my safes. Will make it available if I can find it.

Might be a bit beat up, but should polish out.

    Ck.

Does that mean that scottsdale will be making those little 10 oz chuncky hand poured bars?

Have one from when Acadamy minted them and it's a little beauty. Would look nice with the scottsdale logo on it.

No, I think Scottsdale only purchased the milling machine that makes the stackers from Materion.

Materion had originally taken over production from Academy as far as I know. Which explains why some of the earlier Academy and Apmex bars have the "Made By Academy" hallmark on the back.

Dam, I've seen Materion little chunkys, but thought they'd look cool with the Scottsdale logo on them.

    I like the Academy Chunky.

Only bought one at the time when Bullion Bourse was still selling them.
Opted for buying Dragons and the 10oz Fortuna Bar in the crappy packaging instead of buying more. :/

GP is another run of Silver Stacker bars out of the question now that Scottsdale make these in house now?

    Bumping this thread.

Any idea where you can get the academy chunky bars?

If they are made again it will be a different design. Truth is at the moment Scottsdale are just too busy cranking out enough for their own needs without taking on additional work - but watch this space.

They're no longer manufactured by Academy (now have the Materion stamp instead) so they've become a "collectors" item. Found 2 on eBay, one for $400
and one for $700

Keep an eye on APMEX as they do buybacks and might randomly get some in (maybe a US member could order it for you if they did). Other than that maybe put a WTB thread up on the forum, might get lucky :)

GP -- Your post communicates the idea that availability SS bars is "somewhere out there in the future"... Just so I (and probably lots of others like me) know how closely to "watch this space", can you give us any indication of whether these bars may be happening in the real near future, if they'll likely be happening early next year, or if this is a "maybe someday" deal or whatever may be the case?

The original SS 10oz stacker bar is a closed mintage - the die was lost when Materion ceased production.

I'm hoping that we can announce something (well actually a bunch of things) over the next few months.
