    Hi everyone
Can someone tell me what this mark is likely to be or be caused by? Its on the pigs shoulder and its clearly not a scratch as the coin was from a roll and the capsule has never been opened (until now). It looks like 2 dots and on high power (insert) little spots or divots ? Hard to be sure if its something on the coin or pressed into the coin ? Any ideas on the impact on value ? Just for my interest thanks

It could be just the coin itself. For example, being frosted where it shouldn't be.

    Does it look like this?

    Or like this?

i have a few coins with this damaging too, Britannia coins have this often too; i think it is from coins rubbing against each other, or moving in the inside of a coinholder in the transport

I don't think that will have a huge impact on the coin's value, if it was a proof yes.

Would have to see it in person under a loupe..

Might have been something wrong with the die at the time. Wouldn't be the 1st time that happened at PM.

Affecting the value? Depends on the buyer.

Probably wouldn't matter to most in a few decades.

Might be better answered under the Lunar section..

The insert is under a 40x reflective magnification using Zeiss optics - bit better than the average loop.
I agree with you it's very likely caused by a die problem.
I personally don't see a problem posting this sort of issue under numismatics
    Thanks

In person is always better/easier than photos, is all.

No problem with the thread in this area.. Just that maybe a larger audience (i.e., greater chance of others experiencing the same with their Lunars) elsewhere at SS, too.

Anyway, as good a job as PM usually does, they're still not 100% perfect, unfortunately.

Oftentimes die issues, probably related to die fatigue. Could be a number of variables.
