Source: Is it just me, or are we drowning in spam today? I can barely keep up with the report button...
Yeah... reported all the spam but its still around. Suggestion: Put all new accounts originating from China on hold and approve on a manual basis before they can post since 99% of the spam is from China.
Not a bad idea that fishy. I do feel for anyone posting from the asian bloc. Trouble on trades, manual activation of accounts etc. But hey, safe is safe right?
Probably less work to manually approve a few accounts than removing spam threads all the time. It's not like I'm against people from China, they're entirely welcome but the spam bot to real user ratio is like 99:1, makes sense to manually approve legit users.
Australia used to be one of the biggest sources of Spam on the internet...until they caught the lone guy here responsible for it all! :/

I'm a moderator on another forum and in the past week our spam catcher has caught 1002 account creations with credentials that were recognised by stopforumspam.com. Over the past month there have been around 3,000 caught. (The owner clears the "to be authorised" list every so often.

Thanks for the 4883 reports today guys All cleaned up for now - if you're reporting a spammer though, just report them once if they're making multiple posts - when I kill them off I remove their account and all of their posts in one go, so reporting a single post will flag them. I might look into the option of changing the Report link to show that someone else has already reported them, but selectively quarantining new users based on their location is a bit tougher.
