As the title suggests, is there anything we should do to maintain the lustre and appearance of our stack? Not so concerned about coins as they either come in capsules or a tube. Should bars been sealed or cleaned? Noticed a 10oz bar I found recently has some stains that resemble 'mould' spots. I realise its not, but thats the closest description I have for it.
PM is for the maintenance of wealth. Cleaning and polishing is for obsessive compulsives. Best thing I did to cure my former ailment was get a bunch of dirty, banged up old junk. Now there's some silver with a bit of character!
i used to wrap my bars in bubble wrap and not handle them with bare skin. Then i realised that this was ridiculous and taking up too much space so i deliberately unwrapped and handled all my bars to try to overcome the thought patterns. It was difficult but i succeeded. Don't worry too much, just concentrate on getting them. That is the important thing. You can always clean them up when it's time to sell. Just try not to drop them too much.
Ditto - unless they're 999 coins or gold coins (encapsulate or card them) just don't let anything bang together. Don't worry about tarnishing on bars.
I tend not to take coins out of tubes or capsules, if i want to fondle my silver then round 66's are the way to go. CBF Cleaning, id say a huge amount of my stack has started to tarnish. If you are going to be concerned about the condition or tarnishing of ag then suggest you buy some gold as that does not tarnish.
Another thing as well is that older bars (like the old school Perth Mint/Engelhard etc) just look better with age - so let them tarnish!
Thanks guys - Just wanted to make sure i wasnt doing anything to devalue them. SF - I'd leave the ASEs in the tube and will buy a single just to fondle
If you cant touch them, you dont own them. Ban capsules! Put them straight in the bin! Coins and bars are so easy to clean and in reality the coins youre buying close to spot are one in a million. You are buying metals, not crystal. Ahh this is why i have banned myself from the numismetic forum lol
Of course dirty stained silver is no good. It has lost its value and is worth nothing, But being the nice block that I am . I will still give you half of its original value.
takes 5 seconds to clean them. boiling water, piece of alfoil, some sodibic, bing bang boom you're done.
