PM coins like the opal series have a built in light and button Li battery. I know Li batteries have a long shelf life but is there a risk of leakage, corrosion or other incidence when stored for years that may damage the coin or box. Is it best to take the batteries out for storage ?
    Any thought on this ?

Yes take them out, risks of leakage.
Keep away from flammable stuffs or even high temperature might have a risk of explosion.
Just write on a piece of paper the size of the battery just my 2 cents
