The basic stuff we all already know, buy graded and what you feel comfortable with. But also, buying graded coins seems to be cheaper than playing the grading game. I've been trying to bid on many of these auctions listed on LBC lists, mainly the PF70 historical figures and the PF69 Goldfish blueboyjay had up as well as some of the other awesome coins like 1989 God of War & Wealth. Alas I am but a poor stacker, I only managed to snag a few bargains. I will not bore you with what I have bought and what I wanted to buy ... Read the full article here.
They already sell well into 4 figures, to be honest I don't agree with buying it now this late into the game. It might have 2000 actual mintage but it still is a 2007 coin so who knows, some guy could be hoarding 1000 of them somewhere. Much better spending your money on older & rarer pandas and if you really have to buy these special event Pandas there are a lot out there to choose from instead of Xi'an. For example, I bought the 2009 30th Anniversary 'special event' set of pandas (1/4oz Gold + 1oz Silver), it's pretty cool. Which reminds me, if you've been reading CCF you would know I just bought a 3.3oz 1989 God of War & Wealth PF69. That definitely has < 2000 mintage and is cheaper than a 2007 Xi'an Panda... so yeah.
Ok at 4 fuigers for a 1oz coin il pass. Wow I was thinking of this coin also.what claw does yours have? Did you get one from adamc4?
Clouded claw according to the seller, but will have to check when I get it to confirm. I didn't buy from adamc4 as he declares full value on the package.
Yea that's sucks. When I bought a 9 coin dragon set for arround $1100 the value on the parcel was $30.lol

Well I've dipped a toe in the water of Chinese Numismatics, 1987 and 1990 4-coin Historical Figures sets. Original box + coa. They seem like nice coins, and quite a small (though uncertain) mintage too.
What is interesting is that the 1984,86,88 historical figures sets had restrikes in 2003-05! Apologies if this has been discussed previously. src: http://china-mint.info/forum/index.php?topic=4727.0 I read somewhere this was done in Germany, under license from the China Mint.
Yeah restruck, that's why 1986 is quite cheap... I only have 1986 of historical figures so far, can't afford everything at once haha. Thankfully the China Mint has smartened up and stopped doing that crap (as far as we know). Limited funds, unlimited coin wants.
http://www.ma-shops.com/wendel/cat.php5?catid=6387&lang=en Are those good price for raw historical figure coins?
The 1992 looks like a good price but you have to remember that these are likely to be not OMP. Although I have heard that some guy bought some medals from a German dealer and some came back PF70 so you never know. The 1992 Cai Wenji is definitely cheaper than eBay anyway.
Just bought 3 of the 4 1990...missing Zheng He or whatever his name is. Can't wait to get them If you don't mind me asking how much did you pay for your OMP set, I am getting my set as graded so wanna compare.
They are original capsules but not plastic sheath, so don't know if this qualifies as OMP? But with original box and CoA. Worked out at around $350/set inc. shipping.
Not double sealed technically isn't OMP That's cheap though, probably an EU or Japanese seller? They are nortorious for selling Chinese coins without double seal and capsule only.
One German, one Chinese. Also there is some contention as to whether the pre 1992-93 sets even came in OMP. Some people are suggesting that OMP = restrike for these historical series coins.
