If you go to a local news agent in down town Erbil and ask for a "map" of Kurdistan it will take a good 5 minutes to decipher...Especially since on of the borders to the west is the Mediterranean sea. The ottomans completely failed to subdue them. They hold their race above that of the different religions.... as long as you are a believer and a kurd then thats all that really matters. Christian, Muslim, what ever it doesn't matter. The Christian areas of Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, Dohuk etc have more bottle shops per 100m of road than any town in Australia.

There are large areas of Syria that make up "Kurdistan" also. Make no mistake about it though. It is only the freedom fighters on the borders that are fighting for sovereignty. The majority of Iraqi Kurds know right now how important it is to stay part of Iraq for the near future under this Autonomous system.

The Kurds would most likely be the first attacked by Iran in any event... that is of course if you don't discount the regular artillery bombings of Kurdistan towns from inside Iran on a regular basis now of course ;)
