Source: http://news.coinupdate.com/extraord...nours-canonisation-of-pope-john-paul-ii-3253/ It seems to me you can pretty much slap a legal tender label on anything and call it a coin. Most people will just ignore this sort of thing, but I can start to hear people laughing at the hobby, even people within the hobby think this is gettig a bit out of hand, how can we get new people to join up if the hobby can't be taken seriously? If there are no new collectors who am I going to sell my Mickey Mouse coins to in the future?
Depends on your definition I suppose, I certainly wouldn't consider it as part of my collection or an area I would want to study, but dicitionary definition... - Wikipaedia I guess it would count.

i would buy that/want to. just like the ones in clawhammers post. but not as my stack as a cool display thing on my desk or on a shelf next to pictures that people can pick up and play with. but calling it a coin...neh
