Bit of a noob here but been follwing SS for a while now. looking to acquire some numi's and came across a new listing for a rabbit 5oz on the bay. can't find any for sale anywhere to get price indication so any advice about this coin would be appreciatd. ad says really low mintage but again, hard to find any info on it. link below http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=221134136836
I would say no... that premium might even be too much for a 10oz sII rabbit... I'd say 10oz rabbit would be around the $400-$500 mark, not for a 5oz see rabbit mintages here: http://forums.silverstackers.com/topic-25948-2011-rabbit-mintages-published.html
No just collecting. I didn't know these coins even existed and can't seem to find anywhere online. Nice looking coin though just need to work out whether the premium is worth the low minatage value.
Thanks for that, yeah looked at that thred just before and noticed the 10 oz had over 4000 more minted. not a huge diff though. Can't seem to find any 10oz'ers either. People must be holding on the them.
11 or 10 years again, it will be the year of rabbit...don't worry if you miss this one. $500+postage is a lot for a 10oz...you can get 10oz coin for $370. But then, if you have money to burn...by all mean...go for it. I bought mouse and dragon of series 2, because my children was born in 2008 and 2012...so stashed away 1 roll each...that I will never sell.
^^^ It is only a 5oz! This is way overpriced IMHO. I bought one of these in June for Just less than $200.
for that price tag, better to try and get the proof 5oz...to be minted ??? since there will be 2oz proof, not sure 5oz will come along and pay a visit as well . http://www.perthmint.com.au/catalog...year-of-the-dragon-5oz-silver-proof-coin.aspx
Hi Silverlicious The 2011 - 5oz and 10oz rabbits are appreciating in price, the 5oz and 10oz Rabbit has a lower mintage than the 2010 -year of the Tiger coin. Some say, that a collector should go for the design and not the mintage, but often a well liked coin that has a relatively low mintage can do well. The reason why the 2011 - 5oz and 10oz rabbit is appreciating is because it has a low mintage and is well liked. The Perth Mint suspened production of the 2011, 5oz and 10oz coins whilst they were installing a new press, many people thought Perth would re-commence production of the 5oz and 10oz Lunars; they never did, so many collectors were caught off-guard. The 2011 10oz Koala is also appreciating for the same reason. The 2011 10oz Kookaburra isn't because Perth already had a pile of those minted before the suspension. If you are looking for a coin that may have the potential to do well in the future the 5oz and 10oz rabbit 'could' be a good coin to collect. Having said that: The 5oz rabbit was selling for: January 2011 - $227 Feb 2011 - $185 Aug 2011 - $324 June 2012 - $199 23 Sep 2012 - $337.95 Hope this helps! H
Thanks HF for some really good info. Yeah any research I've done shows that they're definitely appreciating quick, though just can't find any others for sale to compare.. first time that's happened on anything really. In doing the math, thy're virtually asking $99/oz . I've seen plenty of 1 oz lunars sell for more with much higher mintage in the hundreds of thousands. Feel like I'm trying to justify to myself. I guess at the end of the day the value of numi's never has anything to do with spot, just the mintage numbers, coin design, year, etc.. perceived value in the eyes of the beholder maybe..
1oz lunars selling for more than $99/oz should really only be some of the more popular series 1 years or proofs.. most series 2 non proof lunars should still be less than $99/oz
