Hey guys, anyone of you has any information about this round? I've done some researches on the web with no luck. Only thing I could find is that it's been designed by Alex Shagin Not sure what the metal composition is but it weighs 26.8g and has what looks like a mirror/proof finish Cheers
Im no expert but i dont think its real silver. That eagle is poorly done imo and something is off with that date. Is it 1886 or 1986? In any case its probably clad and not worth much.
1986 was the 100th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty, hence the merged 8 and 9 in the round shown above. 1986 was also the issue date of the Medal of Liberty, a 7 inch diameter bronze medal designed by Alex Shagin. My guess is the round above is a 'souvenir' medallion issued at the same time.
Found it on the PandaAmerica site: "1 oz. pure silver Prooflike Brilliant Uncirculated medal commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty (1886-1986). Sculpted by the award-winning artist Alex Shagin." - selling them at $49.00 http://www.pandaamerica.com/details.asp?item=4180&grp=1&categ=1
No offense but i hope the artist didnt win an award for that particular coin. Quite frankly that is one fugly eagle and liberty doesnt even look like a lady. Btw, how can that be 1oz when OP says it only weighs 26.8g? Again. Im not an expert. Just stating my opinion. Lol.
It's the same design as the one listed on Panda America but mine is only 28.6g, I guess next step would be getting it XRF'd
