I will be in Perth next week and was considering visiting the Perth Mint and also maybe Perth Bullion.

Has anyone anyone been on the Mint tour?

Also, do they stock anything of interest that you can buy there and nowhere else?

Also would consider visiting Perth Bullion as I see them mentioned often on the forum.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

If you have a few hours to kill I think Perth Mint is worth a look, & the tour is interesting. If you have deep pockets the mints jewelry section has some nice pink diamonds last time I was there, then after the mint's show the pub across the road offers a good feed & beer......... Perth Bullion I would give a miss because they have a few small display cases out front & that's it.

That being said if you want PM products Perth bullion sell them cheaper than the mint so it is worth going there depending on what you would want to buy.
I would go to the mint anyway for a tour. Just remember if you are buying from them and a largeish purchase you will have to hand over your details. Alot of people do not like do this, so keep that in mind.

I'd buy something from the mint just for the experience.

I probably will buy something at the Perth Mint.

I called them and they said that they require I.D. for everything that they sell.

They added that they only pass on the info to the Govt once the total reaches $5000.

This is not true. They require I.D if you buy for more than $5000.

I would have thought that it was untrue also, BUT, that is what I was told by the Perth Mint shop when I called them on Friday.

All being well I will find out for sure next week.

I'm personally visiting Perth Mint on regular basis so I know for sure that you are not required to show your I.D when the purchase is below $5000. What they say on the phone is completely different story. If you are after lunar gold coin like 1/10 oz and 1/4 oz stick with Perth Bullion-low premium compare to Perth Mint.

Yuripuka, I suggest while in Perth you do the Fremantle prison tour. It's raw and crazy to think the conditions they were living under not so long ago. Then you can go see Australia II just down the road. ☺

Back from Perth, and did manage to do the tour of the Perth Mint.

The tour was interesting, we saw the largest gold coin in the world, a gold pour and I ended buying a small shiny blob as a memento.

Madaw1 was correct re ID requirements.

I paid in cash and no one asked for any I.D.

I was a bit surprised though that as of some time last year they no longer sold any of their buy backs.

EVERYTHING is melted, no matter if the bars have historical value or not.

    What a travesty.

I was a bit disappointed with the lack of product knowledge of most of the staff.

I have an old Kalgoorlie Metal exchange 1kg bar with the swan logo and thought that they might be able to help with some history about the bar but they knew nothing.

    I did actually see some.

They were not at the mint but down in Margaret River.

    They had 3 sorts.

    White, milk and dark chocolate.
