I think it'll only happen when we become a republic.

Unfortunately the majority of Aussies are stupid and it doesn't look like it will happen anytime soon.

Yeah but there would be public outrage if we got rid of the hag from our coins (no idea why but there would be).

It baffles the mind why people have this blind allegiance to her but that's just how dumb we are, have you seen how many idiots go out in the weather just to see her when she visits?

    Keep drinking that fluoride sheep.

Don't tar all of us fluoride drinkers with the same brush :p

I'm very much for Aus being a republic and according to this article so would 60-80% of Australians. Similar numbers prevail across numerous other polls.

Maybe once the old bag bites the dust it will be a lot easier to achieve a republic? I think Gillard mentioned this possibility a few years ago. Swanny is up for it too

No, I'd rather no queen because the very idea of having one is stupid and anyone who thinks otherwise is stupid as well. I'm not saying having a president is going to solve anything but it's about time we became independent.

And sorry house, you're right, not all fluoride drinkers are stupid...yet :p

    lastly, sorry anonmiss :(

The only party pushing for a republic is the fabian party.

Maybe we are are not as stupid as you think.

Should get rid all of them. Start from the above right down to the pm. See how much we save.
Dont need to pay royalty. Dont need prime minister. Atorney general and the rest.
Jus the president. And adopt a koala or kangaroo on the coin. Dont have to pay them either.
Just like US liberty or something similar

It's good having the right to free speech but without the queen [and kings] you wouldn't have had that privilege to start with and having a President if America is used an example..mmmmm is that a good thing??

Just relized the flaw in the plan of getting rid of lizzy of the observe of the coins. The Perth Mint would have to come up with an alternative design and I don't trust those buggers to get one side of the coin looking decent let alone both.

The republican debate is always a contentious issue, and there are pro's and con's for it.

One thing is almost a certainity, if we do go down the republican route, then most of the legal checks and balances that we have inherited through the commonwealth legal system will, somehow, be eroded/dismissed etc under a new constitution.

Think it won't happen? Look around you now, and then think again!

Consider this, amongst other issues, if you are considering supporting a change to a republic.

Don't worry about me radiobirdman, you're going to have your queen for the foreseeable future whether or not I agree with it.

We're basically independent already, cutting ties would just authenticate it. When it does happen very little will change, that's got to be a prerequisite.
There's a reason it hasn't happened yet after all, and the public's stupidity isn't the sole cause of the blame.
