How to know if a date is large or small? Here is the pics Picked this Panda off ebay (not too bad except some whiteness - maybe can be removed?):
This is the small date version, I think this is a pretty desirable coin in good condition. Nice score.
The space between the date and the inner/outer rims is more pronounced in the small date. I am not an expert , yennus and 25Grizzlies are... haha
I am not an expert, but this looks like LD to me. For SD the thumb rule is to extend the stair railings downwards - and no portion of date should overlap. For typical LD, the "1" always overlaps. But it may be different for 1994 date, not sure - need to look up.
It's the small date variety. You can tell by the style of the "1". The whiteness you see probably cannot be removed. I had the exact coin with incredibly similar white staining that I sent to NCS and they were not able to remove it. Came back a glistening, but still white, MS64.
thanks for the answer; i guess its not so bad as i saw this on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAP...o0YcPCZ2nieXthsAbUodg%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc As I paid $57 for it, I don't expect much. especially as I am still learning about Pandas.
Not bad. I sent 15 coins to NCS in my last batch before they changed the max value limit and my cost per coin for modern service after shipping there and back was $29.53. Taking a closer look at your photos, it looks like there are some scuffs on the panda's forehead as well. Not sure if it would be worth sending this coin in to NCS, but at $57 I would still put it in a nice airtite and hold onto it for years to come.
Yup that seems to be the only major defect with the coin. I would just consider it the cost of a Panda education.
Derricks explanation is best... Easiest way of telling is by recognising the different font, that's how I do it. Gave never measured spaces or drawn any lines on my coins
