Trying to determine how many Troy ounces in a kilo which I always thought was 32.1507oz. And I always thought that 1 fifty cent round contained .34oz ASW So and my maths must be out, the standard swap always quoted when trading a kilo kook is 96 fifty's. That works out to 32.64oz,95 fifty's work out to 32.3oz,94 fifty's work out to 31.96oz. 1 kilo kooks weigh 32.151oz as far as I understand....so the ratio that I have always used is 95 fifty's (32.3oz ASW) approximately = 32.151oz,1kilo kook. . Help would be appreciated,I am going wrong somewhere? Thanks REDBACK
Immm I get: 1 ozt = 31.10 grams = 32.154 ozt per kg divided by .34 ozt (1966 50 cent) = 94.57 coins per kg.
Google has a built in calculator, if you do a search on "1 kilogram to troy ounces" you get: Nominal actual silver content of a 1966 50c is 0.3416oz. So a kilogram actual silver content of 1966 50c would be 94 coins.
Thanks guys I thought I was loosing my sanity and duding others when I pointed that out. Few more years of Sanity left! REDBACK
For a kilo silver content = 94 of them will weigh 13.28gram x 94 = 1.24832 kg, isnt it? Plus it would take half of the house to store, who's got the time to to count them or pile up nicely to weigh them ... I keep questioning whether it is a mistake not getting into these but the whole thing still feels so unattractive, I would rather keep it nice and simple...
They have their place. Not for bulk stacking so much, but for recognition and fractional trading. Even a non silver aware person would see value.
As a newbie to silver stacking, I am going to get a small stack of 66 fifties to start with. Main reason I want them is for something that will move quick/well priced if I ever need a bit of cash for something. They seem to be perfect for that reason.
1966 50cent 80%silver/20%CU coin.Extremely liquid and easily recognized by most Australians and in an overheated state IMHO
definitly not buying under spot, theres a 6-8% premium, but use them to make up weight or sweeten a deal on something you want. I use the follwoing site for calcs, hope it helps http://www.australian-threepence.com/silver-coin-values/australian-silver-coin-values.htm
1 Troy Ounce (ozt) = 31.1034768 grams 1 kg = 32.1507466 ozt Try this very handy FREE program to convert between units: http://joshmadison.com/convert-for-windows/
I will only buy 50 cent coins in excellent condition, otherwise they are merely scrap metal which involves a cost to reprocess. Additionally they are still legal tender which makes recycling illegal. Much better off with pre 46 sterling coins as they can be easily melted down for the production of silver jewellery etc.
hey matrix, selling is a tough one but lately the have been going for around 13.5-15.00 which has been 5-10% above spot. Theres literally millions of these on the market, one fellow forumite said some guys were buying $100's of $1000's worth recently
Universal were selling 60kg worth (that's 4500 of them) asking $14.50 last week. Quick sample of retail prices with spot at $40.69 is $15.30 to $16.49 - that's 10% to 18.5% over spot. This can be generally beaten in bulk private sales when you get a line on them. One Qld seller always has higher bid/ask prices than the rest of the country - pretty sure I've seen them offering to pay more than other dealers were selling them at on some days. Must be a big market for these in Qld.
