I recently got into this silver thing, and pick up a few oz's every month. I'm at 50+ oz now, and its getting a little more difficult to organize. I'm looking to move into 10oz bars, and there seems to be no commercially available way to organize them. I have mostly generic 1oz rounds now, but i have a couple odd ones (1/4 and 1/2oz, they just sit in a little box, i might trade them in) If anyone can give me some ideas, i would really appreciate it. Thanks
Why do you feel the need to organise it Back in the day I ran spreadsheets, I could tell you the date I bought every round, how much I paid for it and what the current value was, I could tell you how many of each type I had. Everyday I could see the value going up and down and I could put my hand on every round and coin, bars in one box, lunars in another etc. But then I just kept buying and I ran out of space in the lunar box so I had to put them in another box, and I forgot to add a few a few rounds onto the spreadsheet during a particularly rapid expansion. I was a bit concerned over it at the time but it occurred to me, I don't actually have a stacking goal, so I don't need to know how close I am to a dollar amount or to a weight. I don't sell anything, I am in it for the long term, so I don't need to know how much they are worth everyday, only on the day I go to sell them. Personally I would just pack them in as tight as you can get and when the safe is full, buy another one. Good luck with it. For 10 oz bars thought you might want to pay a bit extra for 'stacker' bars if you can get hold of them, like expensive lego bricks they are designed to fit into each other so you can stack them up without them sliding all over the place.
Storage for rounds would be something like this http://www.perthbullion.com/shop/search/?query=Capsule&searchbtn=Search and members Iceblue, Bloomst or Innerpath may also be able to help. Plenty of sellers on eBay etc. There's also capsules for 10oz bars that stack so you can store them all nice and neat- http://www.air-tites.com/5-oz-and-10-oz-silver-bar-holders.htm
I stack whatever can fit into my Safe Deposit Box....no particular order....just pack it in there. I keep a tight inventory (pictures, dates purchased, etc) with copies on multiples hard drives. .
Has there ever been cases where banks collapsed, shut and where people could not access their safety deposit boxes?
Purchase date, Website ordered from, Mint, weight/size, Purity, bars/ round, numis and semi numis, cost of spot during purchase, total cost of purchase, and shinyness and over all attractiveness. I like to keep it simple
