Joe the treasurer will now have to deal with much less income because of the mining downturn..What will he slash..

Maybe he can increase the petrol tax from 1 cent to 10cents a litre. No one will mind paying a little more for petrol as if you were paying an extra 10cents, you may well save your mates job.

If the economy is going down, we will have to raise taxes or cut services.

Give Joe a clue, what would you do. :)

    Regards Errol 43

    1) Take away the politicians generous allowances
    2) Remove their pension plan
    3) When sending troops into battle, the politician who gives the "order" must serve on the front line for 6 months. This will save money on defense.
    4) Cut negative gearing

Now with all the money saved we could probably cut taxes to the working class by a considerable amount and still have billions left.

    Remove all middle class welfare.
    Eliminate paid parental leave.
    Cut super tax concessions

    But the big one:

Remove government duplication. Consolidate local, state and national departments where possible.

Hockey is probably thinking: "Are there any public assets remaining that can be sold? Any public services that could be monetized? Maybe sell off our gold reserves?"

This is probably what will happen, either overtly or by stealth.

    Another one:

    Radically simplify the taxation system.

You know how every time there is roadworks or lawn mowing how the workers create bottlenecks by closing off lanes to put their trucks with signs to merge and then after the extra 30 minute wait you drive past and there is either nobody working or a maximum of 2/10 working. Why not fire the 80% that never work? That'd save a lot of money.
Then do the same thing in every agency where people don't do anything productive and in parliament.

We can painlessly save heaps of money by stopping overseas aid and UN payments. Why should we be sending money to the UN when they want to destroy our way of life with "UN Agenda 21".

Maybe if they gave every Australian $900 for nothing they would be able to stimulate the economy to get us out of this mess.

I don't think that taking more money off people is going to do anything, they will just keep growing Government at the same rate. They need to reduce the size of the Government, they have already gotten rid of a whole load of nursing positions, time to get rid of some of the local government.

The government are just nurses for the nanny country . What would we do without all their good intentions & them looking after our best interests ?

So basically we're still on target? :/

Edit to add: I see the Feds are still advertising on TV that they'll (insert taxpayer) pay for half of an undergraduate degree.

It was on sky news but you had to press the red button.

In fact it''s still up if you press red.

It was all bad forecasts for the future.

Ah..Joe predicts a better year for Australians for 2015.

Why do Governments (red and blue) give mini budgets prior to Christmas when it is a doom and gloom on. Wayne Swan DID THE SAME THING. IMO, all it does is make the people put on the brakes for CHRISTMAS SPENDING.

Now Joe knows what it feels like to be the treasurer in a non growth/ Mining boom downturn.

Lets hope the G20 countries don't as him to spend $$$$$$$ to avoid a world depression. :)

    Regards Errol 43
