Yes, I was BLOODY LUCKY. I sometimes cannot believe I was so lucky. If that stash had been taken, it would have ruined my life.

You just don't expect mining in a national park, but hey, it happened!

mmm looks like a gravel pit.

I suspect you buried next to the surface gravel so you could easily locate it again.

Dunno... that quarrying activity looks pretty fresh, doesn't look like much erosion has occurred.

Yes, that's good thinking there bury it right next to where mining has occurred on an unstable edge of soil that could crumble at any time.

The mining had taken place about a year before I got back, btw.

Might wanna read what I wrote again... not saying there was a hole there when you planted it. Just saying there was likely surface gravel and you buried next to the rock/gravel.

I get what you're saying now - next to gravel visible on the surface that unfortunately attracted excavation later on.

If it was in NSW then mining is not allowed in a national park so technically it wasn't mining but extraction for a commodity within a quarry on Crown land or land managed by Council.
Looks kinda sandy to me but i'm not examining the vegetation and soil too much as evaluation of photos has been done recently and is bad form :)

It won't be long before they'll be able to pinpoint a 10 kg gold bar from satellite, well they already do that when they survey land from above, now with the newer European System, called Galileo for memory, which is supposed to be operational in a couple years, they will be able to 'mark the spot' to up to less than a meter, perhaps even closer... food for thoughts !

I was watching lately in National Geographic on Austar, a French Team doing precisely that !
They are able to pinpoint 'national treasures' around old castles and even burried buildings abandoned centuries ago, and so far they have found lots of old gold coins etc

That's only for gold out in the open, right?

Quote... That's only for gold out in the open, right?

Well, not really... and that was many years ago.

I'm not trying to scare you or anything, but the way technology advances... it's a risk that I wouldn't take.

Come to think of it, most of my gold is in safety boxes... and it ain't 100% safe either !

Don't want to create an issue here, but I'm not claiming anything but just saying that already over 10 years ago European teams were able to use satellite imaging for pinpointing possible sites for the recovery of burried National Treasures, as seen on Austar.
Also you can be certain that there is a world of difference between the available metal detectors and what Governments have already at their disposal... about a 20 years gap, even if you were in the game.

Domdolittle, I am unaware, at this time, of any satellite technology that can spot deliberately buried and concealed precious metals. I do not believe it exists. A satellite can perhaps spot traces of ruins, and even areas of disturbed soil, but that's as far as it goes.

@Adrenalin, HAARP has nothing to do with the issue, from what I can read:
