    A friend gave me this today any idea what the coin is? It's in a nice mount any idea on value its heavy ? Thanks :)

    definitely arabic,
    has 4 dates - lhs- Julian Calender 19V. = 1970, under it is 1972 (19V reverse 7),dates on rhs are 1359 and 1361 (this would be Hejira dates)

    Maybe Omani? Ascension to the throne in 1970, coin (medallion) minted in 1972?

    The coin is one pound from the United Arab Republic which was a merge between Syria and Egypt that lasted only 3 years between 1958 to 1961

    It's from a fascinating time in Arabian history, when Nasser was uniting many countries in a socialist, semi-secular, pan-Arab movement. I bet the west wishes they could have Nasser back. A very interesting coin from an interesting place in time.
