Hi, I was bit by the bug about 3 months ago when I was looking for some investments and a family member gave me a Lunar Series I coin for my animal. SHINY!!!! I've since added 1 of each 1 oz silver lunar series I and II (and a couple duplicates). Lack of faith in our economic future (next economic crisis = student loans just in time for social security all while the fed makes more colorful linen blend toilet paper.) led to more and more bullion purchases.... I can't stop. I'm tempted to list my stack details but I'm new to the forum and haven't looked around enough to know if that's poor form or not. A side note. Yesterday I picked up a 100 oz RCM bar. It looked great but I had seen videos online about suspected fake RCM bars. I stuck it in a ziplock and hit it with a hammer and sadly it made a bit of a thunking noise and not the bright ping of the Englehard 100oz bar I tested along with it. I acid tested the bar and it's at least covered in pure silver and I couldn't find anything definitive online about RCM bars sounding different (it wasn't as "thunky" as some lead filled bar tests I found on youtube). I bought it from a local coin shop and they've been awesome. They took it back no questions and grabbed my pick of a JM bar instead. Heavily tarnished I look forward to grabbing some baking soda tomorrow and playing amateur chemist =D If anyone knows about the RCM issue please let me know, I'm curious.
Welcome, there used to be a thread where people showed photos of their collections, so if it is poor form then you are in good company!
Liking the name! Welcome You can post pics of any new buys here but make sure you scrub any EXIF data first Some info on Kitcomm might allay your fear about the 100oz https://www.kitcomm.com/archive/index.php?t-73206.html
Thanks for all the warm welcomes! I wish ultrasonic thickness gauges were cheaper or readily available for rental near me and put all the "are the bars real or not" questions to bed. I guess I'll have to rely on the size of my grin when I'm holding it =D
http://stores.ebay.com.au/sparkerinstruments/category283050219-/_i.html?_fsub=283050219 UTG's cheap as chips Admin Goldpelican uses a $110 one from eBay http://forums.silverstackers.com/topic-24935-ultrasonic-thickness-testing.html Would be worth calling your LCS that you regularly buy from and ask if they could test it.
Oh thanks! I did a cursory search before and they were $500-$1000+ My LCS (I'm assuming that's local coin shop) kinda just shrugs and gives the "I know silver when I see it" look. Kinda weird but they have a good rep and I guess they do spot fakes, talking to the staff for a while and they broke out some fakes people tried to sell them that they left behind when they bolted.
I thought your sig was 'Silver Ate My Homies' - anyhow, if that's the case I'm deeply sorry for your loss - otherwise a v warm wilkommen an Silverstackers mate
Welcome mate, oh and I wouldn't clean your new bar, leave it all tarished as it adds charm but thats just me
