    Hello,

I'm just writing this to say hello, over the last year or so I have been re-evaluating everything about my understanding of money,
banks, economies and politics, this education I have taken upon myself has lead me to the conclusion that physical metal is a sound
investment strategy, especially when we have debased central banks quite literally printing money (QE-Infinity?!).

I've read dozens of books, devoured as much information as I can from as many sources as I can.

Looking forward to building my stack, i'm not messing about.. i've sold my investment properties, my house, my car, I've bought a small
relatively isolated block of land (two hour drives to and fromo work are a hassle but the security benefits are worth it), I've set up a
SMSF and am going heavily into Silver and Gold physical ownership.

Also preparing food / medicine stocks and have invested in gravity fed water filtration, (You would be amazed at how many of these remote properties are being snapped up right now).

It really is incredibly liberating to be free of debt, amazing really.. now to convert fiat money into REAL money!

I also am a big fan of West Highland White Terriers, hence my forum name :)

I'll be asking questions about best ways to get into physical metal, so hope people are patient with me.

Silver or Gold? I'm initially looking at a 60/40 Gold/Silver split. But some people think a 70/30 Silver/Gold split would be better.
I'm not really looking at a 'get rich quick' scheme.. i'm looking to preserve wealth when inflation hits hard, this for me is a very
    long term enterprise.

    :)

Hello. Always great to see another self-educated stacker. AND a survivalist at that! The Alpha Strategy is up somewhere as a sticky.

Recommend you read GP's sticky on buying physical: http://forums.silverstackers.com/topic-880-buying-silver-in-australia.html

There are also are a couple of others floating about (can use the search function up the topic of the page).

Our neighbour is busy dog-sitting a fluffy westy. Pretty good temperament.

Welcome, sounds like you are prepping for a financial collapse, try not to get too much of a bunker mentality, it could be years (if ever) and you might as well enjoy life in the mean time!

Interesting intro - I've found the sponsors and members here a very good source for buying gold and silver. I don't have a SMSF but some of the sponsors and even members here can sell you metal in a manner that complies with SMSF regulations. At least one here also offers a storage facility for a reasonable annual fee - but you'd probably be too paranoid.

See the 'Buy, Sell & Swap' and 'Site Sponsors' categories on the Index page

    - hope you don't mean 4 hours in all, that would be insane.

    Hi fluffy,
Firstly welcome to SS , secondly I would ratio gold to silver as 0/100% The gold /silver ratio at the monent is about 1/50 and that ratio historically has always been 1/12-15. Therefore as metals skyrocket in price that ratio will get closer and closer. As a percentage on your return, silver will far out run gold. There is even a posibility that even if only for a short period of time that the ratio could even get to 1/1.

Good luck with it all and happy stacking.

Welcome. My advice is to continue to read and develop your skills in discriminating what's useful, practical and sensible from those wearing rose-coloured glasses (expect silver to reach $1000's an ounce) and those wearing gas masks in the streets.

There is no correct answer to the Au/Ag ratio. Read information that has some evidence behind it - whether you are going to follow the historical reasons for why you might pick a ratio or the 'industrial use' logic or some other reason. Just be happy with your decisions.

I liked the comment about not getting too caught up with the whole doomsday thing.. don't stack too much coz we're all going to die on December 21, 2012 anyway.. haha j/k.

    All the best,
    Nick

Welcome fellow stacker, that is a big move not many people willing to give up so much like a nice car and house in a nice street close to shopping centers and work and such for true security. Good on ya and good luck
