    Hi fellow stackers,

Just picked up two American Silver Eagles from a coin shop.
Both are 1987 but one is extremely dark toned.
Not the best picture to show you but just wondered what you guys would have chosen if buying only one coin ?
I could have asked the dealer to dip the toned coin in coin cleaner ( sulphuric acid based proprietary cleaner ) to return it to bright shiny but he advised to keep the dark tone.
    What do you reckon ?

I would go for the shiny one. I don't collect them and shiny ones seem to sell faster.

At the end of the day if you have a tarnished one you can do the sodium bicarb and tinfoil trick to get it shiny and if you have a shiny one you can tone it easily enough.

If I was going to get a toned one I would get one with some colours on it.

Shiny. Prefer toning on really old bars instead.

Almost all of my stuff is shiny , but I must admit I would love a colourfull toned 1 oz coin.

I have a thing for heavily toned old silver coins with an opalescent colour spectrum. If its anything like that, theres definitely a market for it.

The heavier the patina the better imo. Particularly the opalescent rainbow toning, lovit. Best exaple on a bar i have ever seen.
