Off to the States on a family thing at the end of feb. What should I be looking to buy PM wise. Is there tax on the way back in? Should I be taking stuff like crowns, 27 florins or round 50's to trade or don't they care? Any advice would be great thanks GF
Whereabouts your going in the States ? Its the only country Ive been to overseas, oh and did I mention I got married in the US... Cheers, HAPPY STACKING
I don't think Americans could care less about Round 50s or Aussie pre-decimal. Better off taking cash and coming back with some cheap Libertads, Engelhard bars or something that you can get some premium on back in Australia.
Buy a home. 250usd will get you a nice place. Rent it. Your mad if you don't go snooping the prices...seriously. Buy 2 (Two)
House hunters of course! Now...be nice CJ...deep breaths mate. Now lash.... Are you packing your bags...doubt it.
Yep. As much as I like my world coins, not really a fan of the older Aussie stuff. Who knows, though.. Might be able to find a buyer of that, due to their foreign "oddity," but possibly not get a good price, either. OP: What are your purchasing plans? In person, like LCS or coin show? Or over the internet, like online dealers? US eBay that only ships to the US (like Scottsdale)? US silversmiths (like YPS)? Depending on how you answer that, that might help flesh out some ideas..
There's two American mints whose recent products I really like. I like Choice Mint's Odin 3 oz silver coin: http://forums.silverstackers.com/to...star-of-a-beautiful-new-odin-coin-page-1.html This is their first ever product and its an excellent way to kick off their product line. If you want to get excellent value of an American made product you just can't go wrong with buying some Elemetal Mint high relief 2 oz silver rounds. These are the best 2 oz silver rounds I have ever seen from any country or any mint. There's the American Landmarks series, the Cleopatra round, and the Privateer series. My favorite is the American Landmarks series. The Grand Canyon round is the lowest mintage of any of the Elemetal mint 2 oz rounds. Eh, they can already get those items from online Aussie dealers at reasonable prices. I think the point is to bring stuff from the US that's not commonly found back home, but is desirable enough & could get a decent premium (i.e., profit) because of that demand & geographic rarity. Plus, shipping from the US to AUS isn't exactly cheap, and might also have minimum order $ amounts, which can add a few extra bucks if they were to have it shipped, instead. So not only is it a matter of availability, but also pricing in some instances. As somebody mentioned above, things like (non- 1-oz) Libertads, maybe some certain Engelhards, etc., could be good. Perhaps some Morgans? PG&G bars also seem to have a bit of a following down that way. If the OP is staying in the US for a couple weeks and can get stuff shipped to a US address (or can order ahead of time so the package is already there waiting for them), then they probably have the opportunity for a much bigger selection at better pricing online, than if they had to "settle" for whatever LCS is in the vicinity. And yes, they can already get many Scottsdale or YPS products down in AUS -- but not everything.. Anyway, I'm sure the OP is now getting a few PM's here with wish-list requests from others..
No tax! Awesome...and thanks for the tips everyone. I'm staying for a few weeks but already have a postal address there I can use. I was thinking of a couple of coin shows and local coin shops..traveling to some random non tourist places and will be board stupid without hunting out some good deals.
Gold Pesos, Dollars and gold fractional libertads? There's not nearly enough (re)sellers of them here.
