I recently bought some silverware with the following hallmark. I cannot find a match ? I am not sure if its plate or solid silver. The first two letters are "JR" there are no British silver standard marks or City Mark ? I will take it to the PM to see if their machine will tell me more ? Can anyone help ?? Thanks
I think you'll find it's Joseph Rodgers & Sons, Sheffield - Electroplate http://www.silvercollection.it/SILVERPLATEHALLMARKSJJDUE.html http://www.silvercollection.it/electroplatesilverQR.html#ROD1 No idea what's under the plating.. Have you put a magnet to it?
Incidentally, I've just been looking up assay marks for my masonic pendant I've got for offer in the trade threads... Check out http://www.theassayoffice.co.uk/date_letters.html for date stamps and other British Hallmark information - its a GREAT resource for dating items! RD
