Hey folks. I had someone, who is new to silver, win 3 of my 1oz's on eBay yesterday.
As he lived in the area, I arranged F2F. I sent my other half to meet him, as I'm extremely pregnant right now!
    They were a 1oz Noah's Ark, 1oz Scottsdale Omnia and 1oz 2010 Maple.

He decided they weren't genuine because they weren't the same size and thickness of the Kangaroo he'd brought along with him for comparison.
He did not weigh or "ring" the coins.
Just to be double sure, my other half dropped into a jeweller on the way home, and the coins came out the perfectly correct weight.
Sigh.... I kinda needed that money. :(

    Maybe changed his mind.

Neg feedback on Ebay and relist here IMHO.

I haven't touched Ebay literally in years because of the lack of consistency, control, reliability etc.

This forum's trading area is more reliable as well as the local dealers on this site. I'd take a crack and listing them here (with photos) and as long as the price is reasonable, you should get a bite with a deposit incoming in the next 24 hours.

I've sold a little on SS in the past and had nothing but positive experiences.

    Good luck with the sale.

Thanks Aus. Even the untrained eye can see the Kangaroo is thinner and wider than other 1oz's. It just smarts a little when someone says that without checking properly.

Another buyer asked if I had any more, so I'll offer them to him, but if he's not interested, I'll post them here.

I have wondered to myself why people sell bullion on ebay as the fees usually wipe off any increase sale price and sometimes with paypal people end up selling under spot.

I weigh that up against the higher prices you can get on there. It's a gamble, but they always tend to sell for a bit more and I really needed the extra!

Your other half is a terrible salesman!

However the buyer was an idiot and you are best of without him leaving feedback that "there was no 'Kangaroo' on the coins you gave him."

Hehe, I'm hoping that that guy will think to himself "I'd better do some research, so this doesn't happen to me again!" (research research research) Oh. Different sized blanks for different mints. (first class heel)
    Nevermind.

What I do is message them and ask to make the sale off eBay, has worked many times and saved everyone some $'s. Totally against the rules, ethics etc but as long as they don't find out it's all good :) Since eBay owns PayPal, they still make some money out of it

Better yet, I hope his 'research' leads him here - to this very thread.

No, my other half and the buyer, were, co-incidentally, both bearded bikers. One never knows what one is going to get. :)

Surely one of them has access to a set of scales.

    $10 spent = no probs.

Could you imagine that in the street?

Cop 1 - 'Hey look out, here comes trouble'
Cop 2 - 'Yeah, keep an eye on them, let's see what happens'
Cop 1 - 'Hey, he's pulling a package out of his pocket!'
Cop 2 - 'It has to be drugs or guns or something!'
Cop 1 - 'One of them has a pair of scales! DRUGS FOR SURE! Quick, let's nab 'em!'

    *HALT! POLICE!*

Cop 1 - 'What the hell is this? Silver coins?'
Cop 2 - 'I bet there's drugs hidden inside them!'
Cop 1 - 'This some kind of new, fancy drug you guys are pushing?'

    *bikers roll their eyes*

Cop 2 - 'Right, we've heard enough. Book 'em Danno!'

    I love you, aus.
We do have a scale, he just didn't have it with him. My guy is more an old-school metal head who happens to have a Harley, than a "biker" as such. Apparently, this dude looked like the real thing, and had the same accent as the Pikey, only 20yrs older.
I told him how dodgy it would look, exchanging an envelope for money in public, lol.
The buyer who'd asked for more 1oz's has taken the 3 the weirdo rejected.

Oh well, even in here, not all stackers are as suave and clean-cut as Hem9. :)

You could have simply mailed them instead of doing the F2F thing. Much less rooting around IMO. You and your partner have wasted your time and some money so far for no gain.

If you mailed them he would probably have asked someone else or go to a dealer to find out if they are real. Less likely to cancel the sale this way.

That's true, eureka. He could also have claimed they were fake, demanded his money back and kept them, whilst giving me negative feedback. You live and learn.

Because Ebay still have biggest traffic for coins, especially more new coin collectors, and more suckers too:D.

More and more online dealers realized this, and are using Ebay too, like Modern Coin mart, Talismancoins, etc. They only start to use Ebay since the last couple of years. And almost all their coins are sold at higher price on Ebay than on their own sites.

Although I would bet they have store plans, so pay much lower fees than a regular occasional seller. Even if for a seller with only basic store plan ($15 a month), for a $100 coin, the fee could be 40-50% lower, than the seller who does not have basic store.

Hey Ag-ness, it would seem I was the buyer who "took the 3 the weirdo rejected" (what an idiot).

I dont really get how people can take one look at something and "tell" if it is fake, again with no scales, no ring test, no nothing.

@Auspm that was bloody great, and very funny
