I am on holiday in Italy and found a coin shop in Rome... Managed to pick up a 1989 proof 1 oz Canada Maple Leaf in a stunning wooden box for EUR 65 (approx $88) and a 2oz 2000 Kookaburra for EUR 68 (approx $92). In venice I managed to get a 2000 1/10 Gold Krugerrand for EUR 135 (approx $184) from a Gold Dealer. It may not be the bargains of the century but I am certainly happy with them. So next time you on holiday, scout those coin shops!
will post pics when i get back in a few days. In Rome, exit from Termini Station on to Via Marsala Road heading towards Repubblica. Shop on right hand side about 200 - 300 m. In Venice - this is tricky, as its hard to find anything in Venice. Best I can describe, is from San Marco square, follow the signs to Realto water bus station. The shop is along that route. Shop is called Frollo. There was another coin shop in San Marco square which looked like potential too but didnt see anything I liked at the time. The Rome shop had a bigger variety. Saw some coin shops in Milan too, but they were closed the times I went. Enjoy Italy
