Just received a 2006 one ounce silver kangaroo , from an e-bay seller . Being quite new to buying silver coins , do I have anything to worry about as it seems to have a goldish tint , but appears to be kosher in every other respect . Thankyou for any help you can give . Would also appreciate advice on the best place to buy , am currently collecting kangaroos and britannias .
Hello Wilky and welcome. Sounds like natural toning to me. Pics would be better to see what you have. As far as advice on the best place to buy depends on where your at in the world and what your after.
I have a 2004 roo that is totally toned to a beautiful gold colour but only on one side (luckily the roo side). The bizarre thing is that the 2004 card is also a gold colour, and the coin now matches the colour of the card ! I have no idea how it got that way - that's how I bought it.
The factors that determine toning are many and various..A lot depends on where the silver has been stored and how well the capsule/packaging is sealed. There is a thread here with a lot of interesting stuff on toning http://forums.silverstackers.com/topic-10262-totally-toned-silver.html
Dipping coins in old solution can also sometimes make the coins change colour. However there is a lot of variation in natural toning.
