Hi All, I am after anyone who has good knowledge of gold chinese pandas. I recently purchased some and yesterday I was in a local bullion dealer picking up some silver when he bought to my attention a fake panda which in every way looks identical to mine. I will take mine in to be tested soon but what has prompted me to ask today is this. Seaching the web specs on this particular coin it says the coin has a smooth edge whereas mine have a ribbed? edge the same as the proven fake. would love to talk to anyone who might know.
    Thanks

thanks for that rbaggio, had a quick look over that site and cant see the coin in question, perhaps they are not aware of the fake i have seen which has been proven to be a fake via both the acid test and weight.

There is a panda expert who sometimes posts on this site.

    "pandacollector" aka Peter Anthony

Also seeing as how you are in Adelaide, perhaps you can gain access to an XRF machine to test the purity of the coins? Maybe Adelaide Exchange Jewellers?

It is very hard to make a perfect fake economically, so we can compare it with the original, but you have to measure the size and the weight as the first step.
Very rarely fakes measure 31.1 grams (If 1oz) with correct size (thickness in diameter).

Methinks these people just got burned ... sad, really. The difference between buying a fake silver panda a fake gold panda is a few bucks!
