I have the opportunity to buy some series 1 & 2 lunar 1oz gold coins. Prices spot +$100 and they are about the same for each coin. Choices are:

S1 - horse, dog, goat, rooster & goat
    S2 - mouse, ox, rabbit & snake

I already have S1 horse & S2 snake coins, so my purchases will be based upon which coins, including those two, have the highest current resale values or expected appreciation value over the next 2-3 years.

I have current market value for the rabbit and snake coins and I was wondering what the current values are for the other ones.

Logic would say go the full mintage ones first.

I was and am leaning towards the horse, mouse and ox. I believe all 3 have full mintage. Probably going to to buy 2 Mouse, 1 Ox & the rest horses. That would give me two each of the Mouse & Ox. I could add a rabbit and have a full S2 set. But since I don't plan on buying the post 2014 lunars, no need for any bunnies.

dccpa: interesting creatures on those coins, by the way!

I guess they should be even more creative... and launch more gold coins with more shapes, sizes, engraved representations :p

Coins won't arrive for about another week. Seller didn't have most of the advertised horses, so I only ended up getting one. Also bought a 1997 Ox, (2) 2008 mice and (1) 2oz 2012 dragon. The dragon will be my first 2oz gold coin. Ironically, a friend considered and then turned down a rooster. And since the order date (last Friday), two people have expressed interest in roosters. In the next month, I may be able to get some roosters. But with my cost being spot + 5.5%, it would be fairly expensive for someone in Australia.

Got an opportunity to buy s1 1oz gold ox, rat, snake, dog, goat or rabbit. Does anyone know the current valuation of these coins? Rat and ox are about $30 more than the others. I don't need any of them, so I would be buying based upon relative valuation and ease of selling.

I would get S2, Mouse and Ox.

S2 1oz gold lunars have pretty good demand and sell out every year, with the mouse and ox rare now. As time goes on it will be harder to collect sets of 1oz AU bullion. I'm expecting the mouse, ox and tiger to appreciate over the other coins and most definitely over the kangaroos. As to how much is anyones guess.

I've been paying anything from AUD $1750 (early 2012) to $1900 for S1 Lunar golds. Average would be about $1850 aud I would guess, but I might not be typical as I lurve SI Lunar Golds.

    What does 'full mintage' mean?

Check out this list of S1 mintages. 'Declared Mintage' means no more of this coin will be minted. 'Sold Out' means that 'Full Mintage' was reached. 'Full Mintage' means that the limit for mintage of that coin was reached. The limit was announced early on in promotions for the coin.
Years of the Dragon, Snake, and Horse were the ones that achieved full mintage. Limits for S1 Golds are 30,000

Personally I go for the ones with lowest declared mintage. Others obviously prefer those that sold out and reached full mintage.
