You wont get a decent entry level gold machine for $500. That wont even cover the cost of accessories and spare parts. A decent pick costs $80-100 and I advise you have 2 in case 1 breaks. A spare or extra search coil is worth $300-500. Headphones around $100. Not a cheap hobby.
