    Hi all

I would be interested to hear some people's opinion about how much it would cost to have say a kg or two of sterling scrap smelted into a bar ? How much to have it refined ? and stamped in a manner that people would have faith in ? Any Melbourne area places that do this for guys like us ?

I look forward to your thoughts.

    Thank you

You can't get such small volumes refined here. The usual batch size is 20kg plus.

Refining is 75-150 for an assay
then a $20+ per kg refining fee
Then a $18 per kg granulation charge
Then a $25 per kg pouring fee

So once you do the math, it'll cost you around $80-$90 per kilo to refine and bar. Assuming you could do a 5kg job. The bigger the job, the less effect the assay has on the per kg price.

Look at the retail prices for bars, and look at how much it is over spot. (coincidence?)

Your best bet is to swap it directly for metal with someone who does sufficient volume for it to be cost effective.
