I just found this one on ebay as well... I cant find anything anywere else on the internet about it!!! this could be a gem is it indeed bar number 4! what are your thoughts ive put in a bid but was outbid pretty fast... any idea what its gonna sell for? were i should be at... this thing looks unique! im excited as im sure others on this forum are
^ Gah! Now you've thrown out everything I thought I knew about their serials. Now we've got A, B, S and AG for the 100oz weights :/ Super-jealous BTW. I want to get a few bigger ones as well. That Ebay one is up to $385 with 4.5 days to go.
I would expect $1200 is about where its going to end up. Just on these forums alone I've seen $100 / oz for unique old bars like this
505g Geomin with Bullion Sales International Christmas 1977 counter-stamp. AG469 999.9F(ine silver) Awesome air bubble on the under side!
Yeah, the bubble and the shock-wave pour marks give it loads of character Yes, I believe "counter-stamp" is the correct term for it. It means "a mark which has been added to something that has already been marked." You occasionally see it used in a numismatic context or when an assay office has added a verification stamp to something made by an independent manufacturer.
Is this your bar? You're not trying to pump the price I hope? Just kidding. I've seen rare ones go for really high prices as well - particularly engelhards. I wouldn't have thought geomins were in the same league though. I noticed the seller updated their description to say it is the 4th one off the line and that "this was confirmed by Perth Mint"! Wtf? Could the Perth Mint have refined and poured them? That sounds strange but I know next to nothing about what goes on in that part of the production chain. (Also, what's the bet that this thread is being looked at by potential buyers? It's been first from Google for me. If so DISCLAIMER: The information in this thread could all be false as based on hearsay and conjecture from dealers etc )
I have been contacted by the seller of that bar via Ebay, and he claimed he has a few of those older bar. I mention about SS forum, so he might join us (or not).
Maybe a mistake to advertise the bar on here before it ended jus upped the competition... I guess these things happen, I'm very interested in it but I think it's going to sell out of my price range. Have contacted the seller also but he/she has told me they won't sell outside eBay now as want security for both them selves and buyer... Seller had no idea it was worth more than the silver price, obviously evident by the starting price, missed a good deal at number four I'm very interested in the final sale price
$195 for a 1 kilo bar at Christmas 1977. Up until Christmas 2012, 35 years having passed thats a return of about 4.75% per annum. The All Ordinaries has risen the last 60 years on average about 6% per annum. Given one might not pay tax on silver *cough cough* compared to capital gains on shares, seems like they have been pretty much even over time.
The Bar #4 Ebay auction has hit $455.50 with just under an hour to go. Not unexpected but will be interesting to see if there's a last minute bidding war. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Silver-B...national-Geomin-4-/221176504130#ht_500wt_1288 Edit: Wow! A battle royale between 3 people in the last 30 seconds. Final price $663.33 (or ~$59/oz a 95% premium to current spot). I must admit I was thinking $450-$500 (potentially a bit more) was likely, but my expectations were clearly under. Must be a few more Geomin lovers out there than I thought (and I'm super jealous of whoever nabbed it).
Weird- abit off topic but when I search for this bar on my ebay app it doesnt come up yet the link works fine. Anybody have any idea why?
Welcome Octopus. Glad to see another Geomin lover on board. Please post any info on these guys if you have any (most of what I have is Chinese Whispers).
the seller has more of this kind of bar and asked me why buyers are bidding more than the silver value...? and I answered - you ask me with the username silverngoldsales?
I guess the seller must have send messages to everyone who bid??? lol...hands up how many of you mention Silver Stacker to the seller?
Okay, apparently I've just got my hands on a geomin silver bar through my proxy in Australia. Will try to post up some decent pics but it's similar to the bar posted earlier, except it's 12.71 ozs and has the number 8 stamped on it. Any idea what this bar is valued at? Might be willing to let it go at the right price.
