Just watched Max Keiser( EPS 920) on RT. Seems like Oklahoma is having big problems with water Quality and earthquakes because of fracking.

What will the implications be in Australia with regard to fracking when the TPP comes into force and supports fracking?

Already we have seen one Company fracking for gas in SW QLD go insolvent leaving the people of Qld with a $50 million clean up bill.

Fracking Corporations will go ballistic when the Tpp laws come into place...No protests allowed..Let us frack or we will sue you and we win will be the order of the day.

Jobs!JOBS! jobs for a short time then DISASTER! DISASTER! DISASTER!

Stop the TPP and Fracking Now!

    Regards Errol 43

Using SS as a cheap billboard leading up to a federal election, much? :/
Which party are you campaigning for?

    He's not campaigning.

This is the right time to be asking these questions so that people can figure out who to vote for.

Don't do it! Ban it! Very bad for the environment!

Everything is bad for the environment if it's done badly.

    Who ignorant?

Some things are much worse for the environment then others and should be avoided at all costs.

Your position on fracking is ignorant.

If done properly, the risks are minimal.

I have and the people claiming fracking can be safe are the ones profiting from it.

Are you still harping on about fracking Errol? Crikey get with the science already and don't take Max Keiser's opinion on it.

Pretty much every oil and gas well that has ever been drilled in Australia has been fracked with no problems. Linc energy's issues are nothing to do with fracking and indeed it is highly likely that the measured contaminants have nothing to do with their underground gassification operations. Unfortunately it is doubtful we'll ever see the findings any time soon.

My instincts are against Fracking (and deep water drilling etc) so I had a look at what goes on.

So the potential is poison the people, put poisons in the air, risk seismic activity and get cheap gas.

    I oppose Fracking.

Seriously? The blowout that resulted in Chesapeake's well "spewing thousands of gallons of contaminated fracking water" is not really a "fracking problem" but a blowout issue that can (and has) happened from any well. The payouts mentioned were never shown to be due to the fracking. High methane (and other contaminant) levels in groundwater naturally exists in places where oil and gas reservoirs are to be found. I'm guessing that the air pollution is, again, most likely just related to drilling but workers no doubt encounter additional risks just like workers in pretty much any manual industry including carpentry, welding, car servicing, fire fighting etc etc. And finding traces of anything doesn't mean it is actually a health hazard or that it should not be done. Christ, fire fighters are responsible for spewing thousands of litres of highly toxic cocktails directly into residential environments. Are you going to ban them from putting out fires?

Also the fracking fluids in the US aren't really all that "secret". You can find the list of chemicals on a well by well basis at http://www.fracfocusdata.org/

I'm guessing most people have already seen it but if not "Gasland" on youtube makes an interesting watch.

And if that doesnt convince you just do a few searches on google and you tube for fracking on western downs, chinchilla, Miles, Condamine river, (take your pick) water bores that have provided water for cattle for nearly a 100 years now only spewing out flames when lit.

    There's nothing right about that.

    Yeah. It's basically bullshit.

Lighting water on fire is nothing new. Many areas throughout Queensland and NSW have shallow coal seams and bores are often drilled through them to the underlying aquifers with no or crap casing thereby allowing the trapped gases (and other chemicals) to enter into the water. I wouldn't touch most bore water without knowing wtf was in it and that the driller actually knew what they were doing.
