Found a cache of old coins.

    Hi guys,

    recently found a cache of old coins lying around my grandpa's room.

    can help identify/value them?
    Or anyone know any coin appraisers i can go to appraise these coins?

    Japan 1 yen coin

    I don't doubt either of the above two posts but could you please explain the 'clues'. I am basically a stacker but I am interested in numi stuff and still learning.

    biggest give away is the lack of detail and mush in the details.
    plus I have handled several old yens and own one and this dosnt look right
    here is a real one

    Definitely a very poor fake .The dragon should have at least this much detail.

    Edit to add...Don't we just love to jump all over fakes and stomp them into oblivion :D

    This is what a 1916 China dollar should look like

    They started proper minting techniques in 1797,these look like they were produced by a backyard minter churning them out for the tourist trade and alibaba. No definition ,the design is not there and the casting is all over the place. Stick with bullion from reputable traders or bullion dealers

    Thanks all. Just looking at the images I can see the huge differences. With no disrespect to the original post, the fakes stand out like dogs balls.
