Don't know if this is common knowledge or not but for me it has transformed the useless apple Stocks app into something useful.

You can add gold and silver to the stocks app and it shows in the stock ticker in notification centre.

Go to settings-notifications, press edit at the top right and drag Stock Widget to the top of the list.

Open the Stocks app, press the little i button at the bottom right, then press the + at the top left.
    Add these
XAGAUD=X -for silver price in Aussie dollars
XAUAUD=X -for gold price in Aussie dollars
XAGUSD=X -for silver price in US dollars
XAUUSD=X -for gold price in US dollars
AUDUSD=X -for Aussie dollar in US dollars

Delete all the other stocks that you don't need.

I hope this is of use to someone

Just tried it - thanks! May actually use that app now.

Only thing is the charts don't seem to load properly on mine.

Yeah the silver charts don't work and only the week and month gold charts work on mine at the moment. But I recall all of them working in the past.

Make sure you add Stocks Widget to notification centre- checking spot prices is as easy as swiping down from the clock in the status bar.

Kitco has the best app for checking prices imo. Not sure if you can set the prices to AUD tho.

Use the Goldprice App. It's free - I have gold and silver prices in both $Aus and $US dollars set. Bloomberg App is pretty good too. You can check commodities, bonds, currencies, equities, gold, silver and its free as well. :)
