not talking about fakes so much as just junk silver / silver toned stuff i see around, but if its a coin or unmarked silver looking thing and i really cant tell by the look or feel of it, i can almost always tell if its not silver by the smell. silver doesnt smell. and i think the strong smell i'm referring to must be nickel - like a 20c piece. dont know if it smells stronger to me because i have a nickel sensitivity...

How thick is the coin? Many Chinese fakes have the correct weight but the wrong dimensions to compensate for their less dense composition.
