1900 jobs to go at fairfax http://www.businessspectator.com.au...-Trade--pd20120618-VD3BE?OpenDocument&src=sph Kind Regards nonrecourse
I haven't bought a newspaper for nearly 3 years ( since I started stacking ) ,I get my news from RT.com & Auntie (ABC) At work we get The Herald Sun delivered & we all laugh at how thin it is & full of crap that's days old anyway . I feel print newspapers are out of date ,look at the Trading Post ,they stopped the print version a year or two ago
Heard this on the ABC this arvo - should just point out these job cuts are over the next 3 years - well so they said on the report
The only daily paper I buy is the financial review and only reluctantly because I read the age, the stun and the Australian in our local coffee shop its cheaper buying a coffee and reading there. Kind Regards non recourse
would you buy them if they changed they're name to Daily fiction report I find the comics the best part of the newspaper ,still not worth paying for it
If they stop printing hard copy newspapers what will we use to line the bottom of our budgie cage with? It would be sad if the budgie had to crap on something worthwhile.
Easy Open the cage door & let the budgie out How would you like it if I put you in a small room for your entire life
I like the idea of the smaller sized papers though. Those giant papers are a pain in the butt to read on a plane (that's economy class for you rich buggers). But I do agree with general sentiment that paper is the way of the past.
Live in a capital city? Just take a train once in a while and scoop up all the free MX newspapers that they hand out like lollies. Man that waste of newspaper makes the SMH look like pulitzer prize material in comparison. Still, budgie would approve of it I suspect!
the move to purely online reporting is getting a little too close to 1984 for my liking...not the technology, but the fact the Ministry Of Truth will have much better control on editing history. Dont like how a story panned out? just edit it in a couple of years to suit. Combine this with removing physical currency and then we are really enslaved and at their control
I agree. There have been some 'controversial' articles that have simply been pulled off the internet by some newspapers. You go back a week later to quote the paper and the article doesn't exist anymore. There are some people/websites that do archiving, which is good, but it's still a concern. Politicians do it too. I recall I was looking for a quote a few years back from Tania Plibersek the ex-housing minister in Rudds time. The quote was from her saying that the First Home Owners Grant would just drive up prices and was a silly idea. So, naturally a handy quote when the same housing minister boosted the grant. But it was nowhere to be found. Like someone tried to scrub it from the internet. Maybe one day we'll even get papers that are customised to specific people, and have the same story, with a different frame/agenda/context, sent to specific demographics. Joseph Goebbels would be proud.
